In a comment on Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu new animation (Canned Dogs) lllwtflll says:
A lot of you guys seem completely confused, and the original article is actually slightly off as well. So I’m here to clarify!
The only thing that is holding up the “second season” is the fact that there have been alterations to the character designs by head illustrator Noizi Ito. This is also the reason the 10th book was held up as well.
In order to conform to the illustrations of the 10th book, KyoAni decided to incorporate the altered character designs into the anime and kind of start from scratch. There have been no conceptual meetings about where to take the story as th original article suggests. Instead, what is meant by “new animation” is simply that KyoAni has decided to essentially remake the first season with the new character designs – this will be called “The Prologue of Haruhi Suzumiya”. This new animation of the first season will also include footage that was never shown in the original animation. The “second season” will then follow the “prologue of haruhi suzumiya”. This “second season” will be based entirely on the fourth book, the “disappearance of haruhi suzumiya”.
There will be no deviations from the book at all. My guess is that they’re making this a 24-26 episode “season”. First, the “remake” (new animation) of the first season will air, then the second season will follow.
The article in the July 2008 Newtype states that fans can look forward to a “Early 2009″ release, and that all of Noizi Ito’s new character designs will be revealed in the December 2008 issue of Japan’s Newtype.
To clarify, ONLY THE CHARACTER DESIGNS WILL CHANGE! The original stories of the novels – both “melancholy” and “disappearance” – will stay exactly the same.
That is the most accurate translation of the original article that I can give you.
Can’t believe they’re seriously considering alteration of design..!! WTF!?? What are they, stupid..?? o__O (hope it’s a prank…)
